Today we re-opened our doors to serve our Galena community! It’s felt for a while like we’ve been limping toward to finish line, and to be honest there was a HUGE wave of hesitation when we posted that we would “kind-of” be open for service today. As a small business, it easy to “compete” in our mind with the big corporations. They spend millions of dollars a year in advertising—their branding is prestine—they have massive capital to accomplish big projects. …so on, so on But if we flip that script—They are the ones who can’t even come close to competing with us! They can’t roast coffee on a small scale because the profit margins are too small. They can’t hand stamp and inspect all the bags because it’s too expensive for labor. They can’t be the one making the product and actually handing it off to the customer too—because the owners of these corporations are in an office who knows where. As a small business, we care immensely about the satisfaction of each of our customers. We’re the owner—but also the janitor. We’re the social media team and the complaints office. If we fail we don’t get fired—we loose our whole investment and livelihood—those kind of stakes drive a quality product that we are so proud to call ours! We’re about to make a big transition in our life and business. The past few months have been especially stressful for our family. We decided to take a weekend away just the two of us at a marriage retreat in Lake Geneva hosted by @lgyouthcamp Having a couple days of fresh air, lakeside views, beautiful music @bergsmafamilyworship , and pointed lessons on the covenant of marriage we are feeling so refreshed! The next two weeks at the coffee shop are going to be bittersweet as we close this chapter and move on to the next. We just spent the last two days in Chicago at the Specialty Coffee Expo! I bet many of you didn’t even know there was such a thing! We attended lectures, tasted TONS of coffee, talked to vendors about cutting edge products and services. There were people from around the globe! Our heads are so full but we are so grateful! We are always talking, dreaming and praying about healthy growth for our business. We went to this conference with a list of topics we needed help with!
